💼 About the position:

Join us as an Energy Legal Counsel and play a key role in expanding solar energy in Mexico. You will provide legal guidance on compliance, contracts, project finance, and energy transactions, ensuring Bright’s solar projects align with Mexico’s energy laws and financial structures. You will work closely with executive leadership, project developers, financiers, and government agencies, advising on permitting, regulatory filings, public-private partnerships, and strategic transactions. You will also engage with policymakers and advocacy groups to shape Mexico’s renewable energy market. Success in this role requires a detail-oriented legal expert with proven experience in renewable energy law, infrastructure projects, government procurement, and M&A transactions. You must be skilled at mitigating risks, structuring deals, and aligning legal frameworks with business growth.

💻 Your Responsibilities:

As an Energy Legal Counsel, you will provide strategic legal guidance on regulatory compliance, contract negotiations, and financial structuring to support renewable energy projects. This role demands a detail-oriented legal expert with deep knowledge of energy laws, financing mechanisms, and stakeholder negotiations, as well as proven experience in managing complex renewable energy transactions and mitigating legal risks. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Ensuring Regulatory Compliance: Securing permits, managing filings, and navigating Mexico’s energy framework (SENER, CNH, CENACE, CFE) to maintain compliance and mitigate risks.

  • Drafting and Negotiating Contracts: Structuring and finalizing PPAs, EPC agreements, joint ventures, and reserve-based loans, ensuring enforceability and optimal risk allocation.

  • Advising on Renewable Energy Financing: Structuring tax equity investments, debt financing, acquisitions, and cross-border transactions, aligning legal and financial strategies for business growth.

  • Monitoring Legislative Changes and Advocacy: Engaging with regulators, policymakers, and industry groups to shape Mexico’s renewable energy policies and ensure business alignment.

  • Leading Public Procurement and Bidding Strategies: Handling tenders, public-private contracts, and government negotiations to secure new energy projects and strategic partnerships.
